Madalyn Murray O'Hair: Most Hated Woman in America, by Jon Rappoport

In his newly-released book, The Most Hated Woman in America: Madalyn Murray-O'Hair," investigative reporter Jon Rappoport claims that Mrs. O'Hair, the most famous atheist in the world, was murdered along with her two children, Jon and Robin. O'Hair, who many accept as the driving force behind removal of prayer from U.S. public schools in 1963, mysteriously disappeared from Austin, Texas, with her two adult children in September 1995. Rappoport states, "There is powerful evidence for a brutal killing here. The motive would be money, anywhere from a million to seventeen million, which Madalyn is reported to have siphoned off from her non-profit atheist organizations in Texas." The abrupt 1995 disappearance of Mrs. O'Hair and her children has, in turn, baffled Austin police, the Texas Rangers, and investigators from such news sources as 60 Minutes, Nightline, Vanity Fair, Time, the Baltimore Sun, and the San Antonio Express-News among others.

What happened to Madalyn? In this book Jon gives us a lot of background information, that was not common knowledge. -- Lena Haines

ATHEISM'S FIRST FAMILY "Most Hated Woman in America" was what Madalyn Murray O'Hair proudly called herself, because of her constant fight to keep religion out of public life.

PREFACE The lady vanished. 77 years old. Questions trail behind her. Is this lady a criminal? Did she drain big money out of several organizations on her way out the door? Did she falsely claim to be the legitimate heir to a fortune? Did she issue fake stock to prove her right to millions of dollars that weren't hers? This lady, America believes, was, once upon a time, responsible for eliminating prayer and Bible-reading in the public schools. Is that too a lie? This lady is Madalyn Murray O'Hair. She has been the guru of atheism to several million Americans, for over thirty years. She has served as the weathered star to those who resist all attempts to make America "a Christian nation," "a land under God." But who is she? Where is she hiding? Why did she vanish off the face of the Earth on September 28, 1995, with her son and her adopted granddaughter? Why did she leave employees at her atheist organization in Austin, Texas, in the lurch? Is she still alive, or has she met her end? America lingers over celebrities who turn up missing. There was teamster dictator Jimmy Hoffa. On July 30th, 1975, he disappeared out of the parking lot of a restaurant on the outskirts of Detroit. After extensive investigation, there has been no Hoffa or Hoffa corpse. Every few years, someone claims to have found the remains of aviator Amelia Earhart. She vanished over the Pacific, in 1937. Madalyn Murray O'Hair proudly called herself "the most hated woman in America," because of her constant fight to keep religion out of public life. For her, separation of God and government was a sword she waved day in and day out for forty years. She rabidly assailed those who believed in God, saying they were nothing more than retarded juveniles, brainwashed robots. In America, with its Puritan heritage, her stance hasn't been a popular one. Did some angry enemy (she received a few thousand death threats in the mail over the last four decades) murder her? At Madalyn's American Atheists Center in Austin, Texas, her followers in the gift shop sell a bumper sticker that presents their side of the story: "Honk if You Love Madalyn." Madalyn. The rotund white-haired grandmother/godmother of American atheism. After watching fifteen hours of her being deposed in a recent lawsuit -- you realize this woman can spit venom from here to the moon. Her face, set in its customary mask of indifference, periodically twists into disdain, hatred, and fury, as she lashes out at the lawyer who is interviewing her. The no-nonsense veteran lawyer, Roy Withers, tells me: "In the first fifteen minutes she ran over me like a steamroller. I've never felt anything like it. I was hanging on. I took a break, which I needed, and put myself back together again. From then on I was all right, but I just had to keep my sights on her all the time. She blasts you right off the road." Madalyn. There are those who believe she vanished in September of 1995 because she was gravely ill and wanted to die out of the limelight, out of the view of her enemies. Tracking that possibility, one comes across a strange statement she made in her own American Atheist magazine, in 1986. Madalyn wove this fragment of (paranoid?) logic: "I represent atheism to the world. Wouldn't the religionists love to get their filthy paws on my corpse? And so, I have told Jon and Robin 'no funeral parlors or mortuaries' ... What I don't want is for the religious to get the satisfaction of corpse mutilation or activities that would encourage them to assume that they have wrought revenge for their god ... I don't want any damn Christer praying over the body or even putting his hands on it." Where's Madalyn? Where is she hiding? Is she still alive

A SPECULATIVE BOOK WRITTEN BEFORE THE TRUTH CAME OUT
By Steven H Propp
Madalyn Murray O'Hair (1919-1995) was an American atheist activist. She was the founder of the organization American Atheists and served as its president from 1963 to 1986. One of her sons, Jon Garth Murray, was the president of the organization from 1986 to 1995, while her older son Bill later became a Christian (see his My Life Without God: The Rest of the Story). She is best known for initiating the landmark Supreme Court ruling ending official Bible-reading in American public schools in 1963. In 1995 she was kidnapped and murdered, along with her son Jon and granddaughter Robin Murray O'Hair, by former American Atheist office manager David Roland Waters. She also wrote the books What On Earth Is An Atheist! and An atheist epic: Bill Murray, the Bible, and the Baltimore Board of Education.

HOWEVER: O'Hair's and Murray's murders were not known in 1999, when Jon Rappoport wrote this book. To find out updated information about the murders, you can read a book such as Ungodly: The Passions, Torments, and Murder of Athiest Madalyn Murray O'Hair (Berkley True Crime).

Jon Rappoport has written other books such as The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century, AIDS Inc.: Scandal of the Century, Oklahoma City Bombing: The Suppressed Truth, etc. He explained in the "Author's Note" to this book, "There are people who have had terrible experiences with Madalyn Murray O'Hair who nevertheless don't want an exposé about her. They are atheists, and they feel an account of her activities and character would damage the reputation of their cause, atheism... This not a book about the merits of atheism or Christianity or any other 'ology' or 'ism.' It's a book about Madalyn. And when you finish reading it, you'll agree that this is quite enough."

Rappoport records how he contacted Bill Murray (who ultimately filed the Missing Persons Report), and summarized, "Son William was implying that people in Madalyn's atheist organizations didn't report Robin, Jon and Madalyn missing because such a report might lead to the investigation of those organizations' assets, which were in disarray, which could be filtering through the illegal hands of employees." (Pg. 23)

He notes that in 1997, reporter Dan Fesperman felt that she was dead: "Madalyn couldn't keep her mouth shut this long, especially with all this media about her spilling over. She's gone into funks before, but not this long." (Pg. 126)

This book is basically passé, now that we know what actually happened. There is some material of interest within this book (e.g., quotes from people who knew her), but otherwise this book will likely interest very few people.
