About the Author
Herman T. Tavani is Professor of Philosophy at Rivier College and Co-Director of the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology (INSEIT). He is the author, editor, or co-editor of five books on ethical aspects of information technology.

great textbook, just too long

I had to buy this textbook for my communication ethics course. I really like the information presented inside the book, and the chapters and subchapters are very organized. But I think it's longer than it should be, and it like to repeat itself sometimes.

Amazing book

This book is part of university and college courses, and I think it is great for independent reading. Theories of Ethics and "Cyber law" issues are discussed in a rather fun and intuitive examples and history of cyberethics and legal cases from real life. I never knew about Sony vs Universal, and the Sony Safe Harbor decision and how Napster was different. Very informative. Honestly, seriously, this was required reading in my Masters degree IT program. I dreaded it, that this will be the most boring course as there is no coding and no building anything, no database and no architecture to play with. It turned out to be a very memorable course and probably the best course in the whole 3 years that I took for the program. I recommend this book for students of cyberethics and general IT readers and enthusiast, electronics tinkerers, and IT business entrepreneurs. This is not an exhaustive text but a very thorough introduction to cyberethics issues. Links provided in the book are very useful. I would suggest to do online searches in your CINAHL or EBSCOHOST libraries on the same topics for journal articles.

By chapter three it actually started to be helpful to the average reader explaining things like fallacies and how to spot them

I noticed the first two chapters were very long, repetitive, and spent time applying extensive names to characterizing common sense. By chapter three it actually started to be helpful to the average reader explaining things like fallacies and how to spot them. I am to chapter five and it still seems reasonable.
So after reading chapter 5 I have decided that this is a massively better book than I originally thought and I really think people should read it. It is very informative about how the Internet takes advantage of you and some good ways to be aware and prevent it.
