I found the book quite useful and informative on laptops.
I was looking for tablet information and in this case there was not much information. At the time of printing, tablets were in their infancy and data was accumulating and changing at an exponential rate so the information there was dated.
No way can printed data come close to electronic data speed.

Through spare text and stylized illustration, basic information is given about the dogs, the history of the race, the environment in which it is run, and some of the rules. (The recent change not to allow mushers to stay in private homes is not included.) The watercolor illustrations are whimsical and give the book charm. Attractive borders add visual interest to some pages; however, the Eskimo sun glasses found in one of them are not identified as such and are apt to cause confusion. The oversimplified text and illustrations mislead readers into thinking that Eskimo cultures are the only ones on the trail, while three-quarters of the race goes through Athapaskan Indian villages. The overall effect of the book, however, is a positive portrayal of an unusual sport. Beautiful pencil and watercolor illustrations help tell the story of the Iditarod. Seibert tells the history of the sled dogs and the sleds that were originally built and used by the Inuit, and then adopted by the settlers who came to Alaska. As modern transportation replaced the dogsled, one man, Joe Redington, wanted people to remember the heroic dogs who brought the medicine to Nome in 1925. Thus, the Iditarod was establish in 1973. Great story!

I use this with my 2nd grade students and they love it. Excellent introduction to the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. While some of the rules of the race have changed (the number of dogs that can be harnessed at the start and the ability of the mushers to sleep in cabins/homes in the checkpoints) the book contains a lot of facts about the Iditarod. Highly recommended!

Great for Babies

My 20 month old son cannot get enough of this book. He loves the drawings. He loves the little sounds and stories we have made up for each page. At least three times a day, he grabs this book and begs us to read it to him. And I know when he is older he will be able to use the wonderfully simple but detailed text to write a report on the Iditarod.
I can't believe we have to take it back to the library. We are definitely ordering him his own copy today. Too bad a new one is so expensive.

Great Chic Lit

I waited months for this to be released in the US, but when I realized it wasn't going to happen any time soon, I found a new and very inexpensive copy from a British store here on Amazon. It was worth the wait. It's good, standard chic lit, which is exacy what I was wanting (every book nerd needs a guilty pleasure!). It has its cheesy moments, but it's written well and gives a nice insight to celebrity life that I feel must be pretty accurate given the author's occupation and that she's married to a member of McFly (their band name makes me want to kick something - wtc??). If you want something to stimulate your brain or inspire you to sell all your possessions and live as a hermit in the Appalaichains, look somewhere else. A book so lovely and deserves a nice review, I hope mine is so

It has been a week where I have not been in good health but all I eased my pain and made me feel good was to read'' Billy and Me'' at night. I've never been a person who loves books, but thanks to Giovanna and a good friend of University, I decided that from this year I start reading, and I have to say I love it!
In my life I have a favorite book which is "Harry Potter", but now I can add to my list "Billy and Me" no first or second, is a list that is etched in my heart. The story of Sophie and Billy made me think a lot about the ideas I had from childhood, thanks to television to radio or magazines these ideas were in my mind until now. One of the ideas that most stood out was that all the famous people were married, be in a relationship or even be friends with FAMOUS PEOPLE.
Until I read this incredible book and made me realize that is not true or it could not be true, a famous person can love a person not living that lifestyle or be a friend; clear that I will not deny that all we would be happy to have Sophie's lucky , but she taught me that you fall in love or make friends with the heart and really know who those people are, I mean to know them for who they are and not by appearance or lifestyle.

A part of this as I read I found several similarities between Sophie, Molly, Giovanna and even Izzy (haha) and myself of course: First: We all like cakes. Second: Sophie,Giovanna and Izzy love Jude Law(Who doesn't hehe).Third: Sophie and I like comfortable clothes and the last one (and cutest)Sophie and Giovanna laugh until snort hehe ;)

Thank you for this incredible and lovely book Giovanna, thanks for making these days I imagined this whole story in my head, thanks for the laughs, the tears, and leave me a message unforgettable: Follow my dreams!! I look forward to the next book Xx

I kept wanting this book to not be typical and boring but it just was. The writing and the plot were not challenging in the least bit. Everything was written in the plainest way possible and the story takes every single turn you would expect.

For that reason, he goes to considerable effort to explain what's going on when the user executes various commands. He uses procedures to expose facts about Linux's innards, rather than as mere strategies for achieving desired effects. Therefore, his prose--particularly his extended coverage of the bash shell--reads like a scientist's journal: If we do this, here's what happens (and by the way, here's why). The approach is more leisurely than that of many introductory Linux books, and it leads to a deeper understanding of what's going on under the shell.

The author shows how to configure and use XFree86, the K Desktop Environment (KDE), and GNOME. These are handy skills to have, even if most distributions will more or less automate those processes and some readers may wish instead for information on more obscure aspects of the operating system. Coverage of network configuration, where an intimate knowledge of the command line and configuration files is critical, suits this book's experiment-and-observe format very well. Easy, fun read with lots of info ...

I have a few books on Linux and have finally found one that is refreshing! Rather than a book that rehashes the public domain documentation, I find this book to provide an "I'm with you" perspective - it speaks to you as if the author is sitting there right next to you, explaining in a "been there, done that" attitude.
The format appears to be a "how-to" and pseudo-reference and does both very well. Although Tobler seems to be slightly Win-phobic (which I guess you should be for Linux), the information provided is complete and accurate. And even though the distros discussed are a version behind, no one should have a problem applying the information to current versions of Linux distros. I would have liked to have seen a CD-ROM included. Otherwise, you get a well-rounded opportunity to explore the many pieces of the Linux puzzle.
My tag line? ... all you need is Inside Linux (and "Linux in a Nutshell" for a true reference) and you're ready to go!

The right mix of reference and explanation

I have used a couple of different distros of Linux. I have been able to get things up and running, but without much real knowledge about the system. However after reading and then later referring to Inside Linux for some of my nagging "whats" and "whys" I feel I have a much stronger understanding of this new choice for an operating system. I feel that I can better take adavantage of some of the services that Linux provides. Excellent samples....

This is one of the poorest written Linux books I have ever read. The author jumps around, leaves out many of the important details and is very careful not to touch on the tougher topics.
I would recommend not buying this book unless you are an absolute beginner with Linux.
