Nice, Solid Approach To Learning About Prosthetics

Despite or perhaps because of around 20 years serving patients with amputations, I found this book refreshing in a lot of ways in its presentation of the salient points of managing individuals with amputations. The experience of the author, a physical therapist, shows through in a positive way. There is a quick overview of conditions that lead to amputations. Then the primary emphasis of the book is on lower extremity amputations from partial foot, to transtibial, transfemoral, hip disarticulation, etc. Preop and postop concerns are discussed. Prosthetic components are reviewed as well as troubleshooting and gait deviations. Upper extremity amputations are not reviewed with as much detail but there is an excellent, succinct overview of classification of congenital amputations.
The book does present cases but these are meant more as a focus for applying the principles discussed. There are illustrations that help although I did not find the stick figures that useful.
Overall this is an extremely worthwhile book that also provides websites to companies that provide different components.

You gotta be kidding!

This is a self published book that supposedly teaches the C programming language. The book is very superficial and contains very little actual C code. The kindle and print versions appear to have been formatted with Microsoft Word, There are numerous formatting issues, especially within the little bits of code. Many C function names have been inappropriately capitalized, probably by auto-correct. If you tried using such code in program, it would not compile.

If you know nothing about programming, or do not know any other programming language, this book will not teach you much. It certainly will not teach you how to program with C, as there is no significant explanation of programming plus there is little code in C that does anything.

If you have some programming experience and you know another language, you might get a hint of information about C, but again you would be hard pressed to write a program in C.

I looked at the book for possible use as a high level introduction to C in a college course. Even at the current Kindle cost of $0.00, it was not even worth the effort of using 1-click ordering.

As far as many of the glowing 5 star reviews for this book, I do not know what they are talking about. This book will not help you write a web page, it will not teach you about data structures such as stacks, it does not teach C++. I could cite similar problems with many of the other 5 star reviews. I noticed that many of the 5-star reviews were done in a very short period of time. Further, looking at the other reviews done by many of these reviewers, I found that they were bulk reviewing many free, self published Kindle books in a very short period of time. Some were even reviewing the same books covering divergent subject areas. I personally question many of those reviews.

This book is a scam.

I'm suspicious of all of the 5-star reviews. I don't believe that they are real.

This book appears to have been self-published and written by somebody whose native language is not English. It's poorly organized, poorly written, and while it is supposed to be a "step-by-step" guide, it appears to be a random collection of information. And it's the first programming language book I've ever seen that includes almost NO CODE. Capitalization of keywords and identifiers is frequently incorrect. And in the conclusion, when the author refers to his book, he gets the title of his own book wrong. Don't even spend 99 cents on the Kindle edition.

I bought this for my son (who is an engineer) to use to teach my grandson programming. He said I had to return this and write a review because it is that awful. His comment to me was "it is the worst piece of garbage he has ever seen published". One person commented it looks like it was written in a night, my son said it looks like not even that. It looks like incoherent thoughts written while watching TV. Anyway, I should have believed what I read. Now I will look for a real book on "C". Don't waste your time or money

Terrible Kindle version - Print version is good

Great book with expansive information, but the Kindle version is HORRIBLE. Formatting is all messed up, code is difficult to read (comments and code run together so you can't tell which is which unless you examine it closely), random words are combined which can get confusing (or distracting at least), table of contents information is very terse and lacking in detail, etc.

Just an inexcusable mess for a "digital" format which has the potential -- and very well should be -- a well-presented, superior medium. The Table of Contents completely lacks the fine breakdown of sub-sections that the print book has (my coworker owns the print version); I have resorted to taking pictures of his book's ToC just to have the reference. I'll use the book as a reference when I really need some insight, but it's an eyesore.

A perfect first read

If you are looking to get into programming with Java, switching from another language, or an experienced programmer, this book offers something for everybody. It is easy to read, easy to follow, and each page brings something useful to the table. The author did a great job at approaching a hard to write about topic that is a computer language. There is no way around it, this is a great read, and a good book to start or strengthen your foundation with the animal known as Java. This is #1 in my top 10 books to learn a language from, so pick it up and give it a try!

I have read the Head First Java and while It was approachable and easy to read; if you are a little more confident I would recommend this be your first programming book if you have any interest to learn to program. I also love the larger project that you build throughout the book, that way it doesn't seem like you are just building small patch bits of code that have no real use. This book will leave you feeling confident and ready to start an even bigger project afterwards.

Explanations of the historical and intellectual background of the texts also enable readers with a limited knowledge of classical Arabic to fully explore al-Ghazali and this foundational text for the first time.

Suberb Translation.

really amazing translation and quite a tough read, this is no leisure book but the real deal. I would recommend reading up in philosophy and more basic kalam books before digging into this one. Ghazali as always blows you away with his intelligence.
